How can I purchase cryptocurrencies?

If you would like to purchase cryptocurrencies on SMART VALOR, you need to navigate to the “Buy/Sell” section of the exchange. This can be found in the sidebar on any page of the exchange.

Once you are here, you will automatically be set on the “Buy” screen. On the top of the screen, you will be able to select the currency you would like to purchase, as well as the currency you would like to pay with.

This section also provides you with the last price, 24-hour Change, and the high and low prices over the last 24 hours.

Once you have selected the currency you would like to purchase and the currency you would like to pay with, you can move down to the “Buy” screen to select the amount you would like to purchase and the payment method you would like to use for the purchase. You will also see a summary of the purchase, providing you with the total you are buying, the exchange rate used for the purchase, and the applicable fees for the purchase. This looks the following way:

Once you have selected the desired purchase amount, you need to select what payment method you will be using. There are 3 ways to pay for a purchase:

  • Wire transfer
  • Fiat wallet
  • Credit/Debit card

After this, you can review your purchase in the summary screen and then click the “Buy” button to complete the purchase. The purchase will be completed right away and the cryptoassets will be placed in your crypto wallet.

Can I sell crypto as well?

Yes, on the “Buy/Sell” screen, you can switch to the “Sell” section and sell your desired currency. Once you select the currency and amount you would like to sell, you need to click on the “Sell“ button to complete the operation. The funds will either be withdrawn to your bank account or be stored as SMART VALOR Vouchers in your wallet instantly.

What payment methods can I use?

For purchases, you can use one of the following payment methods: Wire transfer, Fiat wallet, and Credit/Debit card. Each method has the following characteristics:

Wire transfer

When making a purchase with a wire transfer, you will be presented with an information screen providing you with the exact amount you need to deposit, as well as the deposit information. Outside of the account information, you will be provided with a reference number for the payment. This reference needs to be included in your deposit in order for the transaction to be processed automatically.

Purchases made in this way will not be completed right away, but instead once the funds from your deposit are received.

SMART VALOR wallet

When making a purchase with the SMART VALOR Vouchers in your SMART VALOR wallet, you can complete the payment right away with funds that you have previously deposited into your account. Alternatively, if you have previously sold cryptocurrencies, you can use those SMART VALOR Vouchers as they are stored in your SMART VALOR wallet. Your SMART VALOR wallet supports five currencies: CHF, EUR, USD, GBP and SEK.

Credit/Debit card

When making a purchase with a credit/debit card, the funds for the payment will come from a credit/debit card that you have entered into the website. The process works like any other online card purchase. After providing your card details, you will get one final chance to review your payment before confirming.

Purchases made with a card will be completed right away. Please note that outside of the applicable purchase fees, there may also be payment fees charged by the payment provider depending on your location, and what currency you are using for the payment.

What should I keep in mind when making a purchase?

When making a purchase with a card or via wire transfer, please ensure that your bank allows you to make payments to cryptocurrency exchanges.

We recommend double-checking your spending limits for your card before attempting to make a purchase, to ensure that your bank doesn’t stop it.

Be mindful of the fact that purchases on SMART VALOR might prompt you to verify the payment via 3D secure. For more information on this, you can ask your bank or card provider.

If you are sending your payment via wire transfer, keep in mind that the amount of crypto you receive at the end might not be the same as when you first requested the purchase. This is due to the fact that the price of cryptocurrencies is volatile and can change at any moment. The amount you will receive at the end is based on the current exchange rate and the fiat amount you have sent.

Disclaimer: Due to regulatory requirements, we are not allowed to process card payments and deposits from certain countries.

What is over-the-counter trading (OTC)?

SMART VALOR allows you to make Over-the-counter (OTC) trades via our OTC service desk. This can be found in the top right corner of our “Buy/Sell“ section. Here’s all you need to know about this service:

What is OTC?

Over-The-Counter or OTC Trading in the context of Bitcoin and crypto, are private deals for buying or selling crypto. Because these transactions are not conducted on regular exchanges, there is no public order book. This provides increased privacy for both buyers and sellers.

The biggest appeal for OTC users is privacy, but this process also allows you to buy or sell larger quantities of cryptocurrency without being impacted by slippage. Additionally, these larger trades have a low impact on the current market prices when performed through this process.

How do I request an OTC trade?

When you are on the “Buy/Sell” section of the exchange you need to click on the “Buy Large quantities” OTC button on the top right corner of the section. Once you do so, the OTC service desk will appear on your screen. Here you are presented with a form to fill out with all relevant information about your desired trade. This includes:

  • If you will be performing a Buy or a Sell trade
  • The currency you would like to Buy or Sell
  • The amount you would like to Buy/Sell
  • Which currency you would like to use for the purchase/receive for the sale
  • Your SMART VALOR account email
  • Your preferred form of contact (Email, phone, Telegram) as well as how to reach you this way

Once you have filled in the form your request will be sent to our OTC desk and our OTC experts will process your request. Please make sure that you have filled in all needed details about your request, such as the desired buy/sell currency as well as the currency you will use for your purchase, or receive for your sale. If all of the information has been filled out correctly our team will reach out to you directly with an offer for the trade. If there are some missing details, our team will first reach out to you in order to iron out all the details of your request.

What should I keep in mind when making an OTC trade request?

When requesting an OTC trade, please make sure that you have the needed funds for the transaction to be fulfilled already in your account.

If you’re buying cryptocurrency make sure you have enough of your desired payment currency in your SMART VALOR account ready.

If you are selling cryptocurrency, please make sure that the desired amount is on your SMART VALOR account before sending us the request.

Requests need to be at a minimum of 100 CHF worth of crypto, but it is recommended that you use the regular Buy/Sell screen for purchases below 10 000 CHF worth, as the minimum cost to use the service is 100 CHF.

Quotations sent to you by our OTC team need to be confirmed within 1 hour of receiving them, otherwise, the trade is canceled and you need to reach out to us again so we can recalculate the trade for you.

Once your trade is executed, the funds will arrive in your account within 24 hours of the agreement. It is possible that the funds will arrive instantly, but it can take the full 24 hours for the funds to be made available.

How can I trade cryptocurrencies?

Outside of buying or selling through the Buy/Sell section, you are able to trade on multiple different markets on the SMART VALOR exchange. This can be accessed from the “Exchange” section, visible in the sidebar in the dashboard.

What is the difference between trading in the Exchange section and buying in the Buy/Sell section?

When purchasing cryptocurrencies using the “Buy/Sell“ section your purchase is performed using fiat funds from your fiat wallet or from an external source like a bank transfer or credit/debit card. This transaction is closer to the traditional purchase of goods and services.

When trading using the “Exchange” section, you’re trading on different crypto markets against other traders. Each market corresponds to a specific trading pair such as BTC/USDT, ETH/USDT, or VALOR/USDT. While purchasing using the Buy/Sell section doesn’t require any previous crypto funds, trading on the exchange does.

Trading views

SMART VALOR offers traders two different trading views to choose from. The standard, “simplified“, trading view, and the advanced trading view. Here’s the difference between the two:

Standard view

The standard view can be considered the “simplified” view, but it still provides you with all of the information that you would require to make an order. It has a simplified and clean layout with the Buy/Sell section on the left, and a price chart on the right-hand side of the screen. Information about your open orders and order history is visible at the bottom. At the very bottom of the page is a description of the currency you will be buying/selling as well as some general information about it.

Advanced trading view

The advanced trading view is designed to look more like the traditional exchange screen you would see on any exchange. This view is designed for experienced traders who want a focused experience when they are trading. It provides you with additional tools when reviewing the information in the price chart, which now sits front and centre on your screen. On the right, you will be presented with the order book of the market you’re trading on with the latest top and bottom-priced trades. At the bottom of the page, you will be able to review your open orders and your order history.

Order types

On the SMART VALOR exchange, you can currently place 2 types of orders. A Limit order and a Market order. Below is a description of the two order types.

Limit Orders

Limit orders are placed in the order book with a specific limit price. The limit price determines the maximum or minimum price a customer wants to trade. The order will be filled if the last price reaches the limit price or is better.

A Limit order may be filled with different prices to fulfil the order amount.

Sell Limit orders will fill when the last price is equal to or greater than the limit price.

Buy Limit orders will fill when the last price is equal to or less than the limit price.

Market Orders

Buy/Sell Market orders are executed immediately at the available price. This means it will take any open orders on the order book (e.g. Open Limit orders). A market order may be filled with different prices in order to fulfil the order amount.

Market orders will be executed immediately at the available price on the market and the unfilled portion (if any) will be cancelled automatically. Maker orders will always incur taker fees.
