Head of Compliance

SMART VALOR AG Liechtenstein · Full-time (100%) · Vaduz

The Head of Compliance is responsible for the complete, independent, and effective execution of the compliance function at SMART VALOR AG Liechtenstein in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, in particular the Due Diligence Act (SPG), Due Diligence Ordinance (SPV), the Token and VT Service Provider Act (TVTG), the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR), as well as relevant sanctions regulations.

The position is established as an internal full-time role (100%) with physical presence in Vaduz and will take over the compliance function previously performed externally. The Head of Compliance acts as the second line of defense within an effective three-lines-of-defense model and ensures independent monitoring of regulatory requirements.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Overall Responsibility for the Compliance Function

  • Ensuring compliance with all anti-money laundering, regulatory, and sanctions-related requirements.
  • Ongoing monitoring of regulatory developments at national and European levels.
  • Implementation of regulatory requirements into internal processes and systems.

AML/CTF Framework

  • Overall responsibility for the AML/CTF program of SMART VALOR AG Liechtenstein.
  • Conducting and updating the Business Risk Assessment (BRA) and Customer Risk Assessment (CRA).
  • Monitoring transaction monitoring systems for fiat and crypto transactions.
  • Ensuring proper implementation of Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) measures.
  • Responsibility for sanctions screening, PEP identification, and travel rule compliance.

Policy and Control Responsibilities

  • Development, maintenance, and enhancement of internal guidelines, policies, and control mechanisms.
  • Ensuring proper documentation and traceability of all compliance-related processes.
  • Conducting regular internal controls and spot checks.

Regulatory Communication

  • Main point of contact for the Financial Market Authority (FMA) Liechtenstein on all compliance matters.
  • Coordination and support of regulatory inspections, audits, and information requests.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate regulatory reporting.
  • Regular reporting to executive management and the Board of Directors.

Support of Business and Product Decisions

  • Regulatory assessment of token listings and new products.
  • Advising executive management on regulatory risks.
  • Ensuring compliance-by-design implementation in new business models.

Training and Compliance Culture

  • Development and delivery of regular AML/CTF and compliance training.
  • Promoting a risk-aware and regulatory-compliant corporate culture.
Reporting Line and Organizational Positioning
  • Direct reporting line to the CEO of SMART VALOR AG Liechtenstein.
  • Regular reporting to the Board of Directors.
  • Functional independence from operational management.
Qualification Requirements
  • Several years (at least 5–7 years) of relevant professional experience in compliance, AML/CTF, or financial market regulation.
  • Strong knowledge of Liechtenstein and European regulatory frameworks (in particular SPG, MiCAR, sanctions law).
  • Ideally experience in crypto-assets or with a regional crypto service provider (Liechtenstein, Germany, Austria, or Switzerland).
  • Ability to meet the "fit and proper" requirements of the FMA Liechtenstein.
  • Excellent German and English skills, both written and spoken.
  • Physical presence in Vaduz (full-time).

Operations Lead / Risk Management

SMART VALOR AG Liechtenstein · Full-time · Vaduz

The Operations Lead / Risk Management is responsible for ensuring the operational stability, integrity, and proper functioning of the SMART VALOR platform of SMART VALOR AG Liechtenstein.

The position holds overall operational responsibility for platform processes as well as for the implementation and monitoring of a structured risk management and control framework. In addition, the role assumes the function of Investigating Officer in accordance with Liechtenstein due diligence law.

The function is organizationally assigned to the first line of defense but works closely with the compliance function (second line), ensuring clear functional separation in line with an effective three-lines-of-defense model.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Operational Platform Responsibility

  • Overall responsibility for the core operational processes of the SMART VALOR platform (onboarding, transaction processing, custody processes, fiat flows, trading infrastructure).
  • Continuous review of system integrity and process stability.
  • Identification of operational weaknesses, inconsistencies, bugs, or control gaps.
  • Coordination with IT and Security to promptly resolve identified issues.
  • Ensuring smooth and controlled operational processes.

Risk Management and Internal Control System

  • Development and enhancement of an integrated risk management framework (operational risk, system risk, process risk).
  • Definition and monitoring of operational KPIs.
  • Conducting regular business risk assessments.
  • Deriving and implementing appropriate risk mitigation measures.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of the internal control system (ICS).

Investigating Officer under SPG

  • Conducting a comprehensive internal audit at least once per year.
  • Conducting additional special audits as required.
  • Reviewing in particular AML/CTF processes, sanctions controls, system integrity, and internal control mechanisms.
  • Preparing a formal audit report for executive management.
  • Ensuring proper documentation and traceability of audit results.

Interface Function

  • Close collaboration with Compliance, IT, Security, and Operations teams.
  • Ensuring operational implementation of regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting internal and external audits.
  • Reporting to executive management on operational risks, control deficiencies, and improvement measures.
Reporting Line and Organizational Positioning
  • Direct reporting line to the CEO of SMART VALOR AG Liechtenstein.
  • Functional collaboration with the Compliance function and Operations function.
Qualification Requirements
  • At least 4 years of professional experience in the crypto or fintech industry.
  • Ideally experience with a regional crypto exchange in Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Austria, or Germany.
  • Strong understanding of operational processes of crypto trading platforms as well as system and process controls.
  • Experience in process and risk management.
  • Basic knowledge of AML/CTF and due diligence regulations.
  • Experience or training in AML/CTF is an advantage, particularly with regard to the role of Investigating Officer under SPG.
  • Structured, analytical, and system-oriented working approach.
  • Excellent German and English skills, both written and spoken.
  • Physical presence in Vaduz (full-time).
